About us
We’re David and Keri New. Together we’ve visited and hiked all 63 original U.S. national parks, and we camped inside about half of them, by tent and by travel trailer. Chiricahua in Arizona became the 64th national park in 2026, and it’s our next trip.
We started National Park News because park rules change constantly, and most guides don’t keep up. In 2026 alone, Yosemite and Glacier dropped vehicle reservations and Zion changed its tunnel rules for big rigs.
How we work
- Firsthand first. “We Camped Here” verdicts and scores come only from campgrounds we actually stayed in. Where we only hiked, we say so.
- Official facts, sourced. Every rule, fee and limit links to the National Park Service or Recreation.gov page it came from, with the date we last checked it. Anything marked “Official data, not firsthand” is exactly that.
- Checked daily. Each morning we read every park’s official alerts and archive them, so our “Is it open?” status and our change log stay current.
- Independent. We’re not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Park Service. Photos on this site are NPS public-domain images, credited on each one.
How we make money
Some links to RV rentals, campsites and tours may earn us a commission at no cost to you. It never changes our verdicts. See our affiliate disclosure.
